Everything is going just as planned in the worm bin. They little munchers are happy, healthy, and multiplying. They’ve been eating just as aggressively as expected. And then one day you walk into the classroom and everything has changed seemingly overnight.
It might be a swarm of fruit flies darting through the air like fighter jets. Or maybe it’s the smell of decomposition, and not the good kind. Perhaps, the drain is dripping with leachate the color of crude oil.
In any case, something is wrong and time is of the essence. First step, take the lid off the worm bin and dig in.
Catalog problems in the worm bin as they arise. Document each issue with photos, descriptions, treatment protocols, and outcomes. This catalog will serve as a resource for future students in the Lab who will learn from your experience.
