The Modern Steader team is a sucker for a good seed packet design. We each have our favorites. Some like the artistic nod, while others – namely Dave – prefer the packets with actual plant or seed photography on the front.
Whatever your preference for the aesthetics, one thing is certain. Seed packets contain information vital to growing the variety under optimal conditions.
Optimal growth relies on proper germination, perfect planting depth, good plant and row spacing, the right temperature, specific sun exposure, and not starting the seeds too early or too late. The packets also suggest the optimal moisture level and the days to harvest.
Design a seed packet to use as a template for all the varieties you harvest in the Lab and to serve as the basis of your Seed Library. What information should you include in the design? Is there any additional in-formation you can include from experience that isn’t normally included on retail packets?
Your template can include just the information and layout for a packet or envelope that can be purchased. It could also be information neatly organized on a sticker can be applied to an envelope.
If you are feeling creative, design a template that can be cut out and folded to create a seed packet with just a little glue or tape.
