- Earth Cube Compost System: Composting Operations Manual (included with your Earth Cube)
- Food Waste
Food waste in the United States is estimated at 40% of what is produced and accounts for 20% of what goes into landfills (organic inputs into landfills is over 70%) each year. Landfills are a primary driver of methane gases released into the environment. Composting that waste not only recaptures nutrients but extends the life of active landfills by a number of years. The US currently composts about 3% of its food waste.
Calculate the impact that a city-wide composting program would have on your local landfill. Begin by interviewing the manager of the landfill to establish some requisite assumptions for starting data that you will need to make your calculations. Present your findings to the local government.
