Mother Nature is quite adept at creating perfect soil over time. Seeds, leaves, and rain fall, piling up below the canopy of plants and trees.
This produces a rich organic debris layer that provides the perfect home to primary consumers which compost the inputs in place, a layer of nutrient rich soil, and the moisture required to jolt fallen seeds from their dormant state. In the spring, growth begins again just as it has for centuries.
The forest floor is the perfect place to explore this process in action. Visit a local forested area to dig deeper into good soil and the process that creates it.
