There are certain attributes used to identify plants including their leaves, flowers, and seeds. In some cases, leaves and flowers are not available for inspection. In the Edible Learning Lab, we work with seeds on a daily basis so developing a basic familiarity with the attributes of seeds from different families is a good skill to develop. Seeds are also identified by specific characteristics including size, shape, color, surface texture and more. Getting familiar with the basics is a good start to being comfortable with identifying seed.
The following gallery, though certainly not exhaustive, will give you a good starting point for developing your seed identification skills.
