In my neck of the woods, lemons are still hanging on the trees when the weather starts to turn warm. We always pick fresh, sweet lemons and oranges from the neighborhood trees when they’re in season and there’s so many good things you can make from them. How many of us can think back to our childhood and having a lemonade stand…at least once? But how many of us actually made real lemonade from real lemons? Not me. But when your students see how simple and tasty this recipe is, they’ll be excited to make this one every day. Just make sure you have enough lemons…and maybe think about getting some bee hives!
This lemonade is killer and it’s SO simple. We love the fact that it uses local honey instead of granulated sugar for sweetness. It makes a great base for a lot of variations of refreshing summer drinks. I like to add a little mint, ginger mint is great. You can also add a little ginger ale and orange or lime juice to kick up the citrus a little. One of our favorites here is ginger ale, ginger mint, lemonade and a splash of blood orange for color. It makes a beautiful, refreshing pool-side drink on a warm summer day.
